Creative Corrimal and Makerspace

The Corrimal Chamber of Commerce and The Corrimal Revitalisation Action Group (CRAG) presents Creative Corrimal 2017 on April 22nd .

This year we will be holding a Photography Exhibition and Competition with Senior, Junior and Open categories. The theme this year will be Community, winners of the categories will receive a cash prize donated from Bendigo Bank (Fairy Meadow Branch).

Creative Corrimal will also be including the Illawarra’s first Makerspace which is sponsored by Wollongong City Council. A Makerspace is a place where people can come together to use materials as well as develop creative projects. The important idea is that it is a place that can be used for a range of activities with changing and flexible educational goals and creative purposes. We have seen Makerspaces overseas in all different shapes and sizes and whilst they are most commonly associated with using technology to create and design projects, Creative Corrimal will be holding workshops throughout the suburb to learn how to decorate cupcakes, how to design and make a greeting card, bead making etc.

We are partnering with the University of Wollongong to teach people how to design and make their own 3D Sculpture. We also have the STEM Roadshow booked to showcase at Creative Corrimal. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) is now being taught within the schools of the Illawarra and we are in discussions with some of those schools to highlight what they are doing with STEM in their School.
